The Quilt that keeps on giving

Batik Beauty

Batik Beauty 109″ x 109″

I donated this kingsize Batik quilt to be used at a silent auction fundraiser for The Bockman Foundation. It is a non-profit charity that helps people with spinal cord injuries.   I got a email informing me that the quilt sold for $600. I then found out that the people who bought the quilt re-donated it to another silent auction fundraiser for a family with 3 kids that just lost their father.  I couldn’t be happier.  I hope that my quilt brings at least another $600 for that family.

I just did a free hand edge to edge swirl design in the body and some custom quilting in the set in triangles and border.

This is large kingsize quilt with full custom quilting. It is comprised of forty nine 12 inch blocks and 3 borders.  There are 24 house blocks with lots of stitch in the ditch around the houses and then a fairly densely quilted background.  There is an additional 25 plain blocks with intense custom quilting.

Patty and Peggy’s Charity Quilts

Patty and her sister Peggy made these 7 beautiful quilts for the Little Warriors Be Brave Ranch.  They asked me to quilt them and I was happy to help out.  I tried to quilt each one with a design that fit with the quilt:

There were two Mickey/Minnie mouse quilts.  I designed my own pantograph and used it on these two quilts:

For the hockey themed quilt I used a pantograph called Baptiste Swirl:

On this beautiful, green animal themed quilt I used a pantograph called puppy paws:

Four Sisters

My friend Susan has 4 beautiful grand-daughters.  The girls love to spend time with her and the two oldest like to help her sew and quilt.   She let the girls go through her stash and pick the fabrics they liked best.  They cut them into small strips and then they sat on Nana’s lap as she sewed them together to make a string that was as long as they were tall.   When they were finished that had four very colourful strips.  As a Christmas surprise, Susan incorporated the strips into a quilt design.  She was running out of time to complete her gift so I volunteered to quilt it for her.  I made a few suggestions to personalize the quilt by having Susan write their names on each strip and then I quilted over her markings so that it was her handwriting.  She gave me the freedom to FMQ it as I saw fit.

We used a polyester batting with lots of loft that allowed me to quilt designs into the background.  Susan has a dog and a cat that the girls just adore so I thought I should add their foot prints.
